Common Mistakes Doctors Make in Competitive Exams

Preparing for a postgraduate or diploma admission exam can be challenging, especially when you are balancing clinical work and other responsibilities. From my experience as a doctor, I have seen a few common mistakes repeatedly affect candidates’ preparation and performance.

1. Being Indecisive

Many doctors spend too much time wondering whether they should sit for the exam at all. Opinions from friends, colleagues, or seniors can add to the confusion. Make the decision based on your own career goals rather than outside pressure.

2. Starting Preparation Too Late

One of the biggest mistakes is delaying preparation. A structured study plan started early gives you enough time to cover the syllabus, practise questions, and identify your weak areas.

3. Underestimating the Exam

Never assume an admission exam will be easy. Diploma admission tests are competitive, and proper preparation is necessary to perform well.

4. Choosing a Subject Without Proper Planning

Your choice of subject should match your career goals, interests, and level of preparation. Rather than choosing a subject simply because it seems attractive or competitive, understand the demands and prepare accordingly.

A clear decision, early preparation, realistic expectations, and careful subject selection can make a significant difference in your performance in competitive medical exams.
